How can cell phone radiation be completely shielded?

Complete technical shielding of cell phone radiation is not provided by Shield Guard products.

The term shielding indicates a supposed total freedom from radiation. This would often be desirable, but as a rule this is not achievable. In most cases it is a matter of varying degrees of attenuation. Strictly speaking, this often only makes sense temporarily. After all, the devices are intended for use and were procured for this purpose. Nevertheless, there may be certain situations in which total technical shielding makes sense.

There are basically two ways of shielding radiation in a technically verifiable way:

• Absorption of radiation and conversion into heat (not described in detail here)
• Reflection of radiation by metal surfaces or metal mesh. In the case of high-frequency radiation such as mobile radio, this acts like a mirror. Most common shielding methods work with this type of radiation reflection.

The following should be noted with partial shielding: If the signal quality of the device to the transmission mast is restricted as a result, the cell phone increases the transmission power. Partial technical shielding can therefore have a counterproductive effect and ultimately cause a higher radiation dose to people.

With very good shielding materials, it is usually no longer possible to make calls anyway, as the cell phone is shielded too much. The phone could therefore be switched off or set to flight mode for a similar effect.

There are cell phone cases that do not shield the antenna area. This is intended to protect the head from radiation when using the device. This is correct in principle, but if the radio mast relevant for the connection is opposite the head, the radiation must still penetrate the head. The cell phone often adjusts the emitted radiation upwards to ensure a good connection.

The general recommendation is to make calls as briefly and infrequently as possible.

Shielding refers to pulsed cell phone radiation.

Irrespective of the use of such technical shielding, we recommend

• Making calls / using the cell phone only with hands-free function or wired headset

• If possible, do not carry your cell phone directly on your body
• Reduce cell phone radiation by deactivating unnecessary functions such as WiFi, Bluetooth, ….

• Do not make calls when reception is poor, as this results in a significantly higher radiation dose than with good reception
• Never use the devices in moving objects such as cars or trains. By “navigating” through the existing radio masts, the highest radiation exposure always occurs when moving from one radio cell to the next. This is due to the fact that the cell phone has to be logged off from the abandoned cell tower and logged on to the new cell tower.
